Bad storms come and go. We get used to it in the tropical regions as well as up and down the East Coast of the United States. Today on the Space Coast we are going to be getting some heavy wind and rain. The surf is high and we are expecting up to 10 foot waves.
Further up the coast (most likely in the Northeast) they are expecting a triple threat storm that has the potential for devastating some highly populated areas like New York and New Jersey.
One of the benefits of living here on the Space Coast is the fact that we are about 55 miles from the Gulf Stream. Many of the tropical storms get caught in the Gulf Stream and get swept right past us (just like this storm)...it acts as a kind of buffer zone for us. Here in Indialantic we are also about 16 feet above sea level...this allows home buyers to purchase with the confidence that in most cases they will be in zone X (they will not be required to purchase flood insurance). This allows you to purchase this insurance at the cheapest possible rates if you choose. This is a rare bonus when living on the ocean!
